US Data-Center Construction Spending Tops $50 Billion Annualized Rate for First Time
US spending on data-center construction exceeded a $50 billion annualized rate in April for the first time, according to Census Bureau figures published Monday. Official data showed the pace reached nearly $51 billion a year, up 28% from a year earlier.
Data centers accounted for 2.3% of all US construction spending, and private-sector outlays on the facilities surpassed public spending on transportation-related structures for the first time. The figures are annualized and not adjusted for inflation, and they cover data-center buildings rather than the computers installed inside them.
