Trump Says Fed Would Be Wrong to Raise Rates After Blowout Jobs Report
Donald Trump said Federal Reserve policymakers would be wrong to raise interest rates after a blowout US jobs report, arguing there was no justification for an increase. He added that he did not want to influence Kevin Warsh before he chairs his first Fed meeting.
Trump has also said he would like to see lower interest rates and would leave any rate cut to Warsh at the October meeting. The stance echoes comments from White House senior adviser Kevin Hassett, who said the Fed should not hike, had room to cut and that the jobs data were not foreshadowing inflation.
