Bitcoin Drops Below $62,000 as Crypto Liquidations Hit $1.8 Billion
Bitcoin slid 5.5% to $61,344.2, dropping below $62,000, while Ether fell 3.5% to $1,717.5 and the total crypto market value slipped under $2.3 trillion. About $1.8 billion of leveraged crypto positions were liquidated during the selloff, amplifying losses across digital assets.
The retreat extended a slide that had already pushed Bitcoin below $65,000 and Ether under $1,800 a day earlier. Renewed clashes in the Middle East weighed on broader market sentiment, while more than $3 billion had exited Bitcoin funds over the previous 10 days, weakening a key source of demand. XRP fell to a year-to-date low of $1.188 as traders absorbed roughly $14 million in liquidation losses.
