OPEC Crude Output Falls to Lowest in Decades as US Blockade Slashes Iran Exports

businessenergy-marketsoilworldiran 20 posts · 12 accounts

OPEC crude output fell in May to its lowest level in decades as the US blockade of Iran and disruption in the Persian Gulf continued to curb production. The decline marks an escalation from Iran’s export slump into a broader reduction in supply from the producer group.

Shipping data compiled by Vortexa showed Iran exported 209,000 barrels a day of crude oil and condensate in May, down from 1.34 million barrels a day in April and nearly 1.9 million in March, while Kpler estimated 260,000 barrels a day. Earlier shipping estimates showed Iran’s crude exports were down 84% from April and 87% below the previous 12-month average, the lowest in at least six years, with tens of millions of barrels stranded and shipments shifting toward smaller tankers as larger vessels became easier to intercept.
