TikTok Owner ByteDance Weighs Up to $70 Billion in 2026 Capex for AI, Data Centers
ByteDance, the developer of TikTok, is weighing capital spending of as much as $70 billion in 2026 as it expands data centers and artificial-intelligence infrastructure. The sharper increase in spending this year and next is aimed at helping the company lead China’s AI market and challenge top US players.
ByteDance had previously lifted its dedicated AI capital-expenditure plan for 2026 to about $30 billion, and much of the broader outlay could be funded by roughly $50 billion of profit from 2025. The buildout follows an earlier agreement for Qualcomm to supply millions of AI-focused ASICs for data centers supporting AI agents in ByteDance’s Doubao chatbot, with those chips needing to remain within US legal compute thresholds for China.
