FTSE Russell Approves 5-Day Fast Entry Into Indexes for IPOs Large Enough for Russell Top 500
FTSE Russell approved a new Fast Entry rule allowing IPOs large enough to qualify for the Russell Top 500 to be added to Russell indexes after the close of their fifth trading day. Eligibility will be based on investable market capitalization using free-float shares and the IPO’s first-day closing price, and the index provider said SpaceX would be independently reviewed for inclusion if it goes public and qualifies.
The change could bring passive demand forward, with funds tracking Russell benchmarks potentially buying qualifying shares within about a week of listing. FTSE Russell said the Top 500 market-cap threshold will now be updated quarterly; only fully underwritten IPOs qualify, while direct listings and best-effort offerings are excluded, and companies with less than 5% free float or voting rights may still qualify if lockups are expected to expire within 12 months.
