Samsung Averts Strike With $400,000 Bonuses for Some Memory-Chip Workers
Samsung Electronics avoided a potentially damaging strike after offering some memory-chip workers bonuses worth $400,000 in 2026, about four times the company’s average annual salary. The wage package was approved by Samsung’s largest union with 74% support, helping defuse labor tensions at the company’s chip operations.
The agreement has also exposed a widening divide over how Samsung shares AI-related profits. In Pyeongtaek, South Korea, home to one of the world’s largest semiconductor complexes, a minority union is continuing to challenge the pay deal in court, arguing it disproportionately benefits semiconductor workers.
