Singapore Posts 1.4% April Core Inflation as Q1 Growth Hits 6%
Singapore reported April inflation at 1.8% and core inflation at 1.4%, both lower than expected, after earlier figures showed the economy beat forecasts in the first quarter. Gross domestic product rose 6% from a year earlier and 1% from the previous quarter, above estimates.
The first-quarter expansion was helped by a global AI boom that lifted manufacturing and services, offsetting the drag from higher crude prices. A central bank official said the existing monetary policy stance is adequate and that economic projections and output-gap analysis are broadly in line with earlier expectations.
