South Korea Court Dismisses Samsung Union Injunction Over 40 Trillion Won Chip Bonuses
A South Korean court dismissed an injunction in a Samsung Electronics labor dispute over a tentative pay deal that would distribute about 40 trillion won in bonuses to semiconductor employees. A union representing the company’s consumer-electronics workers had asked the court to block a vote on the agreement, saying it primarily benefited colleagues in Samsung’s chip divisions.
The dispute reflects tensions between workers outside Samsung’s ultra-profitable semiconductor business and employees in its chip operations. The latest report said the court rejected a request seeking to suspend Samsung’s major union from negotiations.
