US Says It Seized $1 Billion of Iranian Crypto Assets
The US has seized about $1 billion of Iranian crypto assets, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Friday, marking a new enforcement step as Washington increases pressure on Tehran. The disclosure came after the Treasury imposed fresh sanctions targeting Iran’s military oil sales.
The administration has been tightening measures against Iran while negotiations remain unresolved. Treasury on Thursday announced another wave of sanctions aimed at Iran’s oil revenue, companies and vessels, and earlier designated the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, the body overseeing transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Bessent did not immediately provide further details on the crypto seizure.
