ByteDance Develops Own CPUs for AI Infrastructure Amid Chip Price Hikes, Shortages

aiai-infrastructureai-compute-chips 20 posts · 14 accounts

ByteDance is developing its own central processing units to support its growing AI infrastructure needs, as surging chip prices and prolonged supply shortages constrain its expansion plans. The move gives the TikTok owner an in-house chip effort alongside its purchases from outside suppliers.

The CPU project adds to ByteDance's broader chip strategy. Earlier reports said Qualcomm had reached a deal to supply ByteDance with millions of application-specific integrated circuits for AI data centers supporting AI agents in the Doubao chatbot, potentially making the Chinese company one of Qualcomm's first major AI ASIC customers.
