Sanctioned LPG Tanker Loads at Iran’s Kharg Island After Slipping Through US Naval Blockade

A US-sanctioned LPG tanker loaded cargo at Iran’s Kharg Island on May 16 after slipping through the US naval blockade undetected, according to TankerTrackers, which said the vessel’s AIS signal had last appeared nearly two weeks earlier off the coast of India. Iran’s Fars news agency separately said an Iranian LPG tanker had passed through the blockade and docked at Kharg, Iran’s principal oil-export hub.

Satellite images taken on May 16, reviewed by Bloomberg News and confirmed by analysis from United Against Nuclear Iran, showed 23 tankers around Kharg, up from four on April 13 and the largest cluster since the blockade began about a month ago. Charlie Brown, an adviser to the group, said the accumulation suggested growing delays and bottlenecks across Iran’s crude and oil export system.
