Senate Republicans Remove $1 Billion Trump Ballroom Funding From Immigration Bill
Senate Republicans are removing a $1 billion Secret Service funding request tied to Trump’s ballroom project from their immigration enforcement reconciliation bill, after internal objections forced out a provision that would have supported the president’s East Wing revamp. Multiple Republican senators objected to sending taxpayer dollars to the project, Politico reported.
The change narrows a broader bill funding ICE and Border Patrol that the Senate Budget Committee advanced earlier Wednesday on an 11-10 party-line vote for floor action. The ballroom-related money had already been facing political and parliamentary hurdles, and reports earlier in the day said Republicans might drop the East Wing funding from the package.
