White House Approves $9 Billion Nvidia Chip Order, Nears Anthropic Deal for US Spy Agencies
The White House approved a secret $9 billion order for Nvidia Grace Blackwell chips for US intelligence agencies and is finalizing a classified contract with Anthropic, according to the New York Times. The Anthropic agreement would give the National Security Agency continued access to Mythos and future Anthropic models, while allowing the NSA and other intelligence agencies to use the company’s advanced AI systems for classified work.
The talks come despite the Pentagon previously labeling Anthropic a supply-chain risk after disputes over contract language tied to surveillance and autonomous-weapons use. The Defense Department has also been testing models from OpenAI, Google and others with 25 power users across five military theater commands as it seeks alternatives to Anthropic’s Claude, which is used in the Pentagon’s Maven Smart System, including classified operations.
