Suspected Iranian Hackers Breach US Gas Station Fuel Monitors in Multiple States
U.S. officials suspect Iranian hackers breached automatic tank gauges, or fuel-monitoring systems, at gas stations in multiple states. The intrusion affected systems used to track fuel readings rather than the fuel itself.
The hackers reportedly exploited systems that had no passwords and were able to falsify readings. They could not alter actual fuel levels.
