Iran Goes 28 Days Without Successful Seaborne Crude Export as Kharg Loadings Stall

businessenergy-marketsoilworldiranpoliticswar 23 posts · 12 accounts

Iran has gone 28 days without a successful seaborne crude export, according to TankerTrackers, which defines an export as a tanker crossing the US Navy blockade line and not returning with the oil. The group said Kharg Island, Iran’s main export terminal, has not loaded any tankers since May 6, while European satellite imagery compiled by Bloomberg showed no ocean-going tankers there on May 8, 9 and 11, the first sign of a prolonged halt since the start of the war.

TankerTrackers said some refined products were still exported because the US Office of Foreign Assets Control did not sanction the tankers involved. Separately, satellite imagery showed an oil spill near Kharg Island and experts warned of a new leak that Tehran has denied, while the US Energy Information Administration said Iran will need to reduce oil output in part because of the US blockade.
