Anthropic Changes Claude Billing for Programmatic Use, Raises Weekly Code Limits 50%
Anthropic said paid Claude plans will move programmatic workloads to a separate monthly credit starting June 15, leaving existing subscription limits for interactive use. The credit covers the Claude Agent SDK, claude -p, Claude Code GitHub Actions and third-party apps built on the SDK such as OpenClaw and Conductor. Credits range from $20 for Pro plans to $200 for Max 20x, with Team Standard at $20 a seat, Team Premium at $100 a seat and enterprise amounts varying by seat type. After users claim the credit, programmatic usage will draw from it automatically; once exhausted, they can enable additional usage billed at API rates or have access pause until the credit resets.
Separately, Anthropic said Claude Code weekly limits are increasing 50% immediately through July 13 for Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise users across the CLI, IDE extensions, desktop and web, and that the boost stacks with a previously announced doubling of five-hour limits. Some developers criticized the split as reducing subsidized usage for automation and third-party tools, with one saying it would cut usage by 25 times and another arguing the policy effectively treated interactive use as activity conducted through Anthropic’s own front end.
