Fed Names Powell Chair Pro Tempore After Term Ends, Pending Warsh Swearing-In
Jerome Powell's term as Federal Reserve chair ended Friday, but the Fed's Board of Governors named him chair pro tempore until Kevin Warsh is officially sworn in as the new chair, according to a central bank statement. The move means Powell will continue leading the Fed on an interim basis rather than handing the post directly to Warsh at the close of his term.
Warsh was confirmed by the Senate in a 54-45 vote on Wednesday to succeed Powell after eight years leading the central bank. The temporary arrangement adds an interim step to the leadership transition and has drawn opposition from Trump Fed nominees, the Financial Times reported.
