China Hasn't Bought Nvidia H200 Chips Despite US Approval for 10 Firms, Trump Says
President Donald Trump said China hasn’t bought Nvidia Corp.’s H200 chips despite U.S. approval for sales to about 10 Chinese firms, saying Beijing “chose not to” because it wants to develop its own technology. He also said the issue “did come up” and that “something could happen,” leaving unclear whether the latest U.S.-China talks produced any progress toward restarting shipments.
The comments add to uncertainty after Trump had earlier said H200 sales didn’t come up in talks with China. Washington previously cleared purchases by roughly 10 Chinese companies, including Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance, with each customer allowed to buy up to 75,000 chips under U.S. licensing terms. But no deliveries have been made, and Beijing has been pressuring buyers to hold back, keeping Nvidia’s effort to resume H200 sales into China stalled.
