Trump Weighs Lifting Sanctions on Chinese Oil Companies Buying Iranian Oil Within Days
President Donald Trump said he will decide in the next few days whether to lift sanctions on Chinese oil companies that buy Iranian oil, signaling a possible change in US pressure on Chinese purchases of Tehran’s crude after his summit with Xi Jinping.
The comment goes beyond earlier US accounts of the Beijing talks, after the White House said Trump and Xi agreed the Strait of Hormuz should remain open and that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. Trump later said Xi offered help on Iran, said China would not provide military equipment to Tehran, and indicated China wanted to keep buying Iranian oil.
