China Will Decide Whether to Buy Nvidia H200 Chips, Greer Says
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said whether Chinese companies move ahead with purchases of Nvidia H200 chips will be a sovereign decision for China, adding that Beijing is making its own determinations on whether to buy. Greer also said chip export controls were not discussed at the meeting.
The comment adds an official U.S. framing to a transaction that Reuters reported remains stalled even after Washington cleared around 10 Chinese firms to buy Nvidia's H200 AI chips. Earlier reporting said the approved buyers included Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance and JD.com, with up to 75,000 chips allowed per customer and Lenovo and Foxconn approved as distributors, but no deliveries had been completed.
