Cerebras IPO Gives OpenAI Potential Windfall at $5.5 Billion Valuation
Cerebras is going public this week in a $5.5 billion IPO, a listing that could give OpenAI a windfall that eventually tops $5 billion and put a clearer value on the AI developer’s commercial ties to the chipmaker. OpenAI also stands to hold about $2.6 billion in combined CoreWeave and Cerebras stock acquired by committing to buy cloud services and chips and by lending Cerebras money.
The offering will test whether public investors want another AI-infrastructure company in a crowded AI chip market. Cerebras counts OpenAI and Amazon Web Services as customers, while OpenAI has been broadening its use of Cerebras hardware as part of a push to reduce reliance on Nvidia, including work to optimize models for Cerebras chips and the rollout of a Cerebras-powered coding model.
