U.S. 30-Year Treasury Yield Tests 5% Again
The 30-year U.S. Treasury yield briefly moved above 5% on Monday morning, reaching 5.03% and revisiting a threshold it failed to hold in late 2023 and early 2025.
At that level, government bonds can become more attractive relative to equities while raising borrowing costs for mortgages, corporate loans and U.S. government debt. A sustained move above 5%, or beyond the 2023 peak near 5.17%, would place the yield in a range not seen in nearly two decades.
