Iran's New Hormuz Authority Emails Shipping Companies With Stranded Vessels as Tolls Advance
Iran's newly created Persian Gulf Strait Authority has begun emailing shipping companies with vessels stranded in the Persian Gulf, a move that pushes Tehran's new transit regime in the Strait of Hormuz from announcement toward implementation. Iran had already said the authority would oversee traffic through the waterway and administer tolls, following the rollout of a permit system and Iranian-defined transit corridors for ships seeking passage.
The outreach comes as Hormuz remains heavily disrupted. Ships attempting to cross on Wednesday received verbal warnings from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy that the strait remained blocked, while shipowners and brokers said vessels had moved clear after the US ended its effort to guide merchant traffic through the chokepoint. Rystad Energy said flows may take six to eight weeks to recover near pre-conflict volumes, and Kpler estimated throughput may return to only about 40% to 50% of capacity under Iranian control.
