Iran’s IRGC Says Missiles and Drones Locked on US Targets Await Orders
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force commander Maj. Gen. Seyed Majid Mousavi said missiles and drones were locked onto American targets in the region and “enemy aggressor ships” and were awaiting an order to launch. The statement marks a fresh threat from Tehran after this week’s fighting involving US and Iranian forces around the Strait of Hormuz.
On May 7, US Central Command said Iranian forces launched missiles, drones and small boats at the USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta and USS Mason as the destroyers transited the strait, adding that no US assets were struck. CENTCOM said US forces then carried out self-defense strikes on Iranian military facilities, including missile and drone launch sites, command-and-control locations and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance nodes. Iran accused Washington of violating a ceasefire by targeting ships near the strait and coastal sites including Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas, while President Donald Trump later said the ceasefire remained in effect.
