Saudi Aramco Profit Beats Estimates as Hormuz Closure Squeezes Oil Supplies
Saudi Aramco said first-quarter adjusted net income rose 26% from a year earlier to almost 126 billion riyals ($33.6 billion), beating analysts’ expectations of 109 billion riyals, as higher sales and a war-induced rise in oil and refined-fuel prices lifted earnings. The company also raised its basic dividend distribution by 3.5% to 82.1 billion riyals.
Aramco said its East-West pipeline had become a critical lifeline and was running at full capacity during the disruption. Chief Executive Officer Amin Nasser said the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has left the world without about 1 billion barrels of oil over the past two months, and that even if energy flows resume, it will take time for the system to return to normal.
