OpenAI Launches GPT-5.5 API as Microsoft Expands Copilot Rollout
OpenAI said GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.5 Pro are now available through its API, describing the models as more token-efficient for complex work and better able to complete tasks with fewer retries. Microsoft said GPT-5.5 is rolling out across GitHub Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio and Foundry, extending access to the model across coding and workplace software.
OpenAI said GPT-5.5 is generally available and rolling out in GitHub Copilot, where early testing showed its strongest performance on complex agentic coding tasks and on some real-world coding challenges earlier GPT models could not resolve. Microsoft said Copilot CLI users can switch among models depending on the job, while Julius and Cursor also announced integrations; Cursor said GPT-5.5 ranked first on its CursorBench at 72.8%, and Julius cited internal testing showing improvements for dashboards, slides and navigating complex datasets.
