OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-5.5 to Paid ChatGPT and Codex Users
OpenAI introduced GPT-5.5, a model it said is built for real work and agent-style tasks that can understand complex goals, use tools, check their work and carry more tasks through to completion. The company said GPT-5.5 is rolling out today to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users across ChatGPT and Codex, while GPT-5.5 Pro is being added for Pro, Business and Enterprise users in ChatGPT.
OpenAI said GPT-5.5 matches GPT-5.4 in per-token speed while using significantly fewer tokens per task, and plans to launch it in the API soon as it works with customers on security and safeguards. The company said ChatGPT inference improvements make GPT-5.5 Pro more practical for demanding tasks, while Codex has been expanded to work across browsers, files and documents. Vals AI said its in-house tests placed GPT-5.5 first on CorpFin at 68% and SWE-Bench at 83%, and second overall on its Vals Index at 68%. The AI Security Institute said it conducted pre-deployment testing focused on cyber and autonomy capabilities and safeguards.
