Foreign Holdings of US Treasuries Reach Record $9.49 Trillion
Foreign holdings of US Treasuries rose by $200 billion in February to a record $9.49 trillion. Long-term Treasury securities accounted for $7.76 trillion, or 84%, of the total, while overall foreign holdings were up $587 billion from a year earlier.
Japan, the largest foreign holder, increased its position by $14 billion to $1.24 trillion, the highest since February 2022 and its 13th monthly increase in the past 14 months. The UK added $17 billion to $897 billion, the second-highest level on record, while China trimmed its holdings by $1 billion to $693 billion.
