France's ANTS Portal Breach May Affect 19 Million; Hacker Claims No Ransom Motive
France's ANTS portal, the government system used to issue IDs, passports and driver's licenses, has been breached, with up to 19 million French citizens potentially affected. ANTS has confirmed the incident, and the Ministry of the Interior said exposed data includes full names, email addresses, street addresses, dates and places of birth, phone numbers and identity-verification data.
A person claiming responsibility said the breach exploited an IDOR access-control flaw and led to the theft of about 80GB of passwords, source code, logs and personally identifiable information. The person said the intrusion was meant to show that government systems are easy to hack, rather than to seek payment.
