White House Says Iran Ship Seizures Don't Breach Ceasefire
The White House said President Donald Trump does not consider Iran's seizure of the MSC Francesca and Epaminodes in the Strait of Hormuz a breach of the ceasefire, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt saying the vessels were neither American nor Israeli and describing the action as piracy.
The Institute for the Study of War said the two cargo ships appeared to have been exiting the strait with their AIS systems off when they came under fire and later idled about seven nautical miles off Iran's coast, and assessed that they were likely redirected into Iranian territorial waters. Separate reports said a third vessel also came under fire after Trump extended the ceasefire by several days while Iran continued to denounce the U.S. naval blockade as an act of aggression.
