Japan's key inflation gauge accelerated in March for the first time in five months, with core consumer prices excluding fresh food rising 1.8% from a year earlier, up from 1.6% in February.
ING said headline CPI was 1.5%, and core inflation remained below the Bank of Japan's 2% target even as higher energy costs drove the monthly pickup.
