US Sanctions China's Hengli and Tightens Iran Oil Curbs
The US Treasury on Friday sanctioned Hengli Petrochemical (Dalian) Refinery Co., Ltd., a China-based independent refiner, in a new round of measures targeting Iran's oil trade and shadow fleet. The action also covered 19 tankers and a number of crypto wallets utilized by the Central Bank of Iran.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also said Washington has no intention of continuing sanctions waivers that allow limited trade in Iranian and Russian oil. Separately, the House Select Committee on China said the measure was aimed at preventing China from purchasing Iranian oil and said such trade uses a shadow fleet of foreign-flagged tankers.
