Anthropic Restores Claude Code to Pro After Brief Max-Only Listing

aiai-products 20 posts · 9 accounts

Anthropic briefly appeared to remove Claude Code from new signups to its $20-a-month Pro tier, after pricing and support pages indicated the coding tool was included only with the higher-priced Max plan. Anthropic later said the change was only a test affecting about 2% of new prosumer signups and that existing Pro and Max subscribers were not affected, although several users reported seeing the updated pricing page more broadly.

By later on April 22, Anthropic had changed the messaging back. Its pricing page currently lists 'Includes Claude Code' under the Pro plan, and a help article updated today says individual consumers on either Pro or Max subscriptions can access Claude Code.

@edzitron

It appears that Anthropic has removed Claude Code from its $20-a-month pro subscription based on its pricing page. Anyone able to confirm who has a $20 plan?

@edzitron

Anthropic’s Claude code support page now says “using Claude code with your max plan”

@edzitron

News: Anthropic seems to have removed access to Claude Code for its $20-a-month Pro Plans in another cost-cutting move. Some users still report having access, but documents reflect only Max users having access to Claude Code with their sub

@scaling01

Anthropic removed Claude Code from the Pro plan I'm obviously going to cancel my subscription if I lose access to Claude Code Mythos was actually the top of the Anthropic hype cycle

@simonw

This is so confusing. Did Anthropic really just drop Claude Code from their $20/month plan? Why would they do that through a pricing page update without making a proper announcement? Plus, $20/month still gets you Cowork, which is just Cl

AS CLARIFIED BY ANTHROPIC EMPLOYEE: "this is a test we're running on a small slice of new prosumer users only, no impacts to existing users"

Anthropic appears to have removed access to Claude Code from its $20/month Pro plan; Anthropic says it is "running a small test on ~2% of new prosumer signups" (@edzitron / Ed Zitron's Where's Your Ed At) (Visit Techmeme dot com for the li

@gergelyorosz

Confirmed that Anthropic - as of now - has removed Claude Code from new Pro signups. This is what the pricing page looks like. Feels like Anthropic has the bet that those doing coding work will be willing and ready to pay at least $100/mon

@gergelyorosz

Weirdly, Anthropic says only 2% of new signups are affected, but as far as I can tell, this is the new pricing page *for everyone* (tried on several devices, in congnitio, same screen, this is not an A/B test as far as I can tell) https://

@gergelyorosz

@nbaschez what test, when it seems to be a full-on update to the pricing page? I could not get it to not show this update, no matter how many different devices I checked in (not connected to my account)

@jeremyphoward

For the "small test" they've modified their docs to remove mention of Claude Code in Claude Pro: It's been a shock to see Anthropic's integrity collapse in the face of commercial pressure. Would love a renewed commi

@simonw

Anthropic really did just hand this one to OpenAI on a plate

RT @thsottiaux: I don't know what they are doing over there, but Codex will continue to be available both in the FREE and PLUS ($20) plans.…

We want you to have a lot of AI!

@theo

"a small test on ~2% of users" I've rolled it every time. Every person I've talked to has rolled it every time. Either they are lying or the experiment was implemented incorrectly. Mind clarifying, @TheAmolAvasare?

@simonw

As far as I can tell this tweet buried in a thread is currently the ONLY official confirmation that this potential pricing change won't affect existing Pro subscribers

@theo

@TheAmolAvasare fwiw, I just signed up for a new pro tier account and I can still use it in Claude Code. The sign up page did not indicate this. The checkout page did not indicate this. When I clicked "i want to develop" during onboarding

@theo

Anthropic said only 2% of new users would see the “claude code requires max tier” change. 100% of users saw it. They were either lying or bad at coding. We have now confirmed it was the latter. Man, these guys are TERRIBLE at writing code.

@edzitron

Amol it is extremely weird that Anthropic reversed every change on the website *AND* updated your support material to make it appear like this was a "small test." What actually happened here?
