US Treasury Buys Back Record $15 Billion of Debt
The U.S. Treasury bought back $15 billion of its own debt, matching the largest Treasury buyback on record. Treasury's February 2026 quarterly refunding schedule had listed a $15 billion cash-management buyback for April 22 with settlement on April 23, covering 1-month to 2-year nominal coupons maturing from May 23, 2026 to April 22, 2028.
Treasury says cash-management buybacks are meant to reduce volatility in its cash balance and Treasury bill issuance, and to lower borrowing costs over time.
